A woman was killed after she was hit by a train at a level crossing in Colchester.

Firefighters, who assisted at the incident in Hythe Park Road, Colchester, just after 8pm, said she was on foot at the time.

A man was also placed in the care of the ambulance service. It is understood he suffered leg injuries and was taken to Colchester General Hospital.

Fire crews from Manningtree, Wivenhoe and Colchester were in attendance.
