Marching on their stomachs
EVER wondered what grub kept Sean Bean's gritty Napoleonic War hero Sharpe ticking over on the blood stained battlefields of the 19th century?
If you guessed frog's legs, then you are wrong!
But you can find out the lovable rouge and scourge of the French's favourite period dishes in a new cook book, Sharpe Chefs, which plays host to a special signing at Waterstones, in Southend High Street, next month.
All sorts of recipes have been put together by a group of chefs, the cast, producers and a director, who all share a love of food and the TV series.
The book also contains a foreword from Sharpe author Bernard Cornwall, who spent his childhood in Thundersley, but now lives in America.
Cornwell himself made a rare home county visit as part of the Essex Book Festival on Wednesday (March 26) at the Civic Theatre Chelmsford to talk about his writing career and bringing history to life.
The book has also been endorsed by Sean Bean , with all royalties going to the National Osteoporosis Society, of which the Sheffield actor is a patron.
Two actors from the popular series, Lyndon Davies and Jason Salkey, who played Sharpe's men Perkins and Harris, will be on duty to sign copies.
And they will be adequately covered by a fully costumed group of Sharpe's soldiers from the 95th Rifles Regiment of Foot.
The signing takes place between noon and 2pm on Saturday, April 5.
