Osbourne leads the way

Harwich ABC's busy schedule continued at Pitsea, Basildon, with junior starlet James Osbourne leading the way.

Fourtenn-year-old Osbourne faced Castle ABC puncher Liam Giles in a 3x2 minute contest.

Colchester-based Giles started the livelier and his shots followed elements of close-quarter action, and stole him an early lead.

Osbourne reacted well to corner advice and changed tactics for the better in the second, boxing off the back foot to good effect.

Osbourne's counter punching in the last proved particulary effective as he won a deserved unanimous points decision, with scores of 16-11, 12-8 and 14-5.

This moves his log to four wins from four and he is fast developing into a prospect to keep an eye on.

Fellow Harwich 14-year-old Nathan Bennett from Wix, gave a courageous display against Berry Boys ABC puncher Joe Martin.

After three action-packed rounds, Bennett dropped a close points decision.

However, he made a contest of the encounter right up to the final bell.
