The BBC scored a massive ratings winner when England's World Cup qualifier against Greece was watched by 11.8 million viewers.
The audience is the largest number of viewers for a Saturday afternoon broadcast for any TV channel in four years.
The nail-biting 2-2 draw attracted a huge audience share of 71.1%.
Peter Salmon, BBC Director of Sport, said: "We are delighted nearly 12 million watched the game on the BBC - it shows how important it is that the World Cup is on terrestrial television."
