Colchester United boss Paul Lambert insisted his players should not feel downhearted, following defeat at Peterborough United.

Colchester United’s 2-1 reverse at London Road was their third in a row and has left them in Coca-Cola League One’s relegation zone.

However, the U’s battled well against an in-form Posh side, especially after losing three defenders to injury.

Matt Heath, John White and substitute Lee Hills were all withdrawn, after picking up knocks in the game.

Manager Lambert stressed to his players immediately after the game that they should keep their heads held high. He said: “I couldn’t have asked for any more.

“The great thing was that we didn’t capitulate when we were up against it.

“It was a big effort and we can’t be too despondent about the way we played, considering what happened.

“We lost three lads from the back four and that’s unheard of but the lads who came in were excellent.

“Peterborough are a good side but our performance was big, considering what had happened with the defenders.

“Phil Ifil came in at centre-half and was different class and Johnnie Jackson had to play at right-back – I thought they were excellent.”

I' more concerened about the home performance against Walsall. The U's should expect most visiting teams play that way.
The U's away form has been reasonable and as PL says with 3 forced defence changes the U's didn't fold. Even the Posh fans (on 606) have been positive about the U's.

What more can you say? They tried and failed -again!! We are simply not good enough! You can use all the excuse you like but at the end of the day, its the results on the pitch that count, not the amount of effort put in, the players in the squad we have, etc, etc. We are in a dire position and we need to admit it! Once again, we looked unfit, flagging, exhausted, 2nd to the ball, lacklustre, need I go on? No zest about our play, in fact, the players didn't look too sure which positions they were supposed to be playing in yet alone try and win the game! The club is fast gaining a reputation for becoming the 'whipping boys' of division one and I, like many others, are fast losing patience. Something has to change and fast Mr Lambert! Your honeymoon period is well and truly over. Please now earn your wages like your fans! I am concerned that another poor performance on Tuesday will leave fans thinking that they have made a grave mistake buying a season ticket this season or that they made a grave mistake buying a ticket for any home match! Give us something to cheer about tomorrow night, Mr Lambert! We need a win and fast! THis will be a big 6-pointer for us! WIn and things look brighter again. Lose and more criticism.
