Geraint Williams praised midfielder David Perkins after the midfielder’s goal helped Colchester United progress in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Perkins’ eighth-minute strike – on his first competitive start for the U’s – secured Williams’ side a 1-0 triumph at Millwall.

It ensured they progressed to the second round of the Football League competition.

Perkins, who signed for Colchester from Rochdale in the summer, was forced to sit out his new club’s opening four matches through suspension.

But after seeing the midfielder shine on his full debut for the club, U’s boss Williams was pleased with the impact Perkins made.

He said: “You can see he’s eager to make up time.

“He was very frustrated about the suspension at the start of the season and he wants to make up for it.

“It was a great strike by David.

“It seemed to catch the keeper and the bar but I think it should stay as his goal.

“David and all of the players showed how much being in the team means to them.”

A good win and another clean sheet. Good to see Perkins get off the mark in his first start for the club.

Going off topic, I would like to take the opportunity to make people aware how CBC are systematically screwing the club at present.

Contrary to what was agreed in the Travel Plan, councillors have demanded the club run and pay for FREE shuttle buses from the Business Park where Rapid Electronics and others have charged £5 to park there.

Thats on top of the club paying for all the signage directing people to the COMMUNITY stadium even when there's no reference to the club whatsoever! CBC even have the cheek to force the club to pay to rent car park spaces and then release them as FREE parking!

Then theres the council forcing the club to pay for all the stewards and in particular marshals who are patrolling areas where it is perfectly legal to park and they have no enforcement powers whatsoever.

Let's make it clear that if there are no parking restrictions on a road you are perfectly entitled to park there regardless of what any householder, marshall or even the police may say about it.

If you need to park on Bergholt Road, Mile End Road or indeed any of the offshoots where there are no yellow lines or 'residents only' restrictions are lawfully entitled to use whatever parking spaces are available, just as long as you are not causing an obstruction in the narrower roads and do not park on the footpaths.

Well said Say as it is. I agree 100% with you. At this present time I am having a ongoing row wth the Mile End Councilor over the Parking. Its a pity this paper does not more in writing a story for this problem

I forgot to mention on my previous posting that the council leaked bits of pieces of the travel plan to the papers (with a certain Councillor Turrell mentioned in a Gazette/Standard article), despite an agreement to only release details as a whole at an official launch.

The information they leaked wasn't even factually correct as shuttle buses from the Business Park was mentioned in the article, but there was nothing in the official travel plan released soon after, which was agreed between various parties including the council!

I would ask the Council what is the point of people coming together over a period of time and working hard to agree a Travel Plan, if they are just going to re-write it themselves how they see fit? How does encouraging lots of people to park in the Business Park fit in with their green committments?

When other events take place at the stadium like concerts for instance, I wonder who will be paying for the stewarding and marshalling etc then, or will the club be forced to foot the bill for that too? If Turrell and her little helpers have their way the answer will most probably be yes.
