Colchester United booked their passage into the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after a 1-0 win over Millwall, at The New Den.
David Perkins' eighth minute goal proved enough to give the U's victory over their Coca-Cola League One rivals.
Perkins fired Colchester ahead from the edge of the area after his shot came off the crossbar and cannoned in off Millwall keeper David Forde.
The U's were given a let-off when Karl Moore's free-kick on the stroke of half-time was touched on to the woodwork by goalkeeper Mark Cousins.
And the Lions came out for the second half with attacking intent, with Tresor Kandol twice going close.
