THERE'S still a bit of time to catch Essex University's celebration of John Constable's painting of Wivenhoe Park.

The Celebrate Landscape Open Exhibition is at the university's Art Exchange gallery until Saturday, May 7.

It contains dozens of original works created by local artists, young people and community groups on the theme of landscape.

It's 200 years since one of the greatest landscape artists this country has ever produced was commissioned by the owner of Wivenhoe House to paint the surrounding area.

Now the location of Essex University, the Open Exhibition is just one of a series of events organised by the university to mark the anniversary.

As well as the exhibition, 12 community groups have been chosen this week to recreate their own section of the masterpiece. Each will have two months to re-create a section of the famous painting with any mixed media such as, acrylics, oils, collage or spray paint, with the finished piece being put together for the launch of Wivenhoe House Hotel’s Constable exhibition in September.
