Flat owners win leaky roof battle

First published in News

ABOUT 150 flat owners have been spared £1,200 bills after a developer agreed to repair leaky apartment block roofs.

Weston Homes has told the leaseholders of flats and homes in Caelum Drive, in Colchester’s Hythe, it will “ensure all issues, past or present, will be remediated”.

The decision was made after several residents at the flagship regeneration development complained of leaking rainwater and other issues after the properties were built in 2008.

At least one apartment has been left uninhabitable.

A bit late for Weston Homes to rescue their reputation. This was clearly poor construction and poor supervision. If I had shares in this disreputable company I would sell them. The poor leaseholders should not only have the defects properly repaired but compensate the flat owners as well.

Its a good result for residents that this company has finally come clean and admitted they were at fault (pity they didn't do it much earlier though). Suppose the reference to the word Western in their name gave a clues that they are a Cowboy outfit!

Our own Community stadium, predominately built and funded by Colchester Council Tax payers should have Western Homes removed from its title, if not now as soon as is legally possible.

A couple of friends in the building trade said not to even think of buying a new-build. This is the perfect illustration of why. Get something built in the 1930s or late Victorian times, they will still be standing when the 20,000 new rabbit hutches are crumbling.
