Traffic chaos in Colchester

Gazette: Traffic chaos in Colchester Traffic chaos in Colchester

TRAFFIC is crawling through Colchester after a combination of crashes and roadworks almost brought the network to a standstill.

Police and paramedics were called to Ipswich Road, at the junction with Severalls Lane, just before 3.20pm today after two cars collided.

A woman aged in her 80s was treated at the scene for minor injuries with the road partially blocked,

Roadworks on the St Botolph's roundabout also caused long tailbacks in all directions with one lane closed for road improvements.

Hardly chaos just sounds like another day in Colchester's sub standard infrastructure.

Colchester; A place of driving nightmares, poor planning, incorrect housing type saturation in the Hythe area , and a town centre to avoid.

Additions include; a poorly rated Hospital sited in the middle of housing areas, with poor access, and even poorer parking facilities. New housing estates built on areas that are already overcome with traffic volume, and an eagerly awaited 3rd Mc Donalds to accommodate the ever increasing populations **** for more healthy food.

Ideal alternative Essex locations to live include;
Braintree
Chelmsford
Halstead
Stansted
Anywhere.

"..Hospital sited in the middle of housing areas,.." More a case of houses built around it, followed by more houses and yet more houses.

Having commuted from Suffolk (near Sudbury) to Colchester for the last two years I have now moved jobs - and the main reason is the traffic. I can take me more than an hour to get home, a distance of around 14 miles or so, most of which I sit in traffic in Colchester. I have done Sudbury to Basildon quicker!! I like Colchester, and the people (but not the increasing crime of course), but the congestion have made me (personally) to move on. Thebionicmansay.....
...is absolutely spot on!

Do they have a deal with McDonalds? A town of this size should have KFC & BK drive thru. We could at least have a choice of unhealthy food now and then ;)

Does anyone actually plan any of the roadworks around Colchester? Mersea Road has been half-finished for over 2 weeks now, leaving us with a rough loose surface and no road markings, and now more roadworks and diversion signs have gone up on Berechurch Hall Road, with no sign of any actual work going on. I've lived in Colchester all my life and seeing such a significant decline in so many areas of life here is really saddening. What is happening to this town??
