A postmortem has revealed a Heybridge woman died from a serious head injury.

A Maldon man has been released on bail after having been questioned following the death of a woman named locally as Sarah Munro. 

Police were called by the ambulance service at about 9.25pm on Sunday after a woman was reported to be "seriously ill" in Heybridge.

Officers went to the property in Heron Way where paramedics tried in vain to revive the woman aged in her 30s.

She was pronounced dead at about 9.45pm The woman’s death is still being treated as unexplained and inquiries are continuing.

A postmortem examination was carried out yesterday and showed that her death was caused by a serious head injury.

But other tests will be required to establish how the injury occurred.

A 39-year-old man from the Maldon area, who was arrested in connection with the investigation, has been bailed until November 18 pending further enquiries.
