COLCHESTER United chairman Robbie Cowling will lead fans on a charity cycle ride to a game in London.

He will head up a group cycling 50 miles to Leyton Orient’s Brisbane Road, on Saturday, September 13.

The ride will raise money for the Tom Bowdidge Foundation, set up in memory of a young man who died of stomach cancer inOctober last year, aged 19.

The charity has been selected as the U’s charity for this season.

Organisers are encouraging more cyclists to take part.

Lea Finch, who has organised a number of fundraising rides, including for teenagers diagnosed with cancer and for prostate cancer patients, said: “Robbie came up with the idea, so I thought, although it is short notice, it was definitely worth a go. Last year I did a ride on behalf of the club, which started at Leyton Orient and went to Colchester.”

The group will set off from the Weston Homes Community Stadium at 7.30am.

Mrs Finch said: “Allowing six hours should give us plenty of time for the 3pm kick off.

“I’m looking for riders and support vehicles to help out.”
