DETECTIVES have released an efit of a man wanted in connection with a horrific chemical attack in Witham.

Wayne Ingold, 56, of Bramble Road, was attacked with a bottle of chemicals leaving him with life changing burns to his face and hands.

This is the second efit released following the unprovoked attack at a block of flats at 10.45am on Friday, August 8.

Mr Ingold, who is registered disabled after suffering a brain haemorrhage, went down to collect his post from the communal entrance when he encountered two men banging on the door.

Following a brief exchange the two men threw the liquid, which was in a glass bottle, over the man and ran off.

Mr Ingold was rushed to the specialist plastic surgery and burns unit at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford.

The liquid used has been described as “caustic” meaning it corodes, in this case skin.

Mr Ingold’s family said they have been left devastated.

He was not the intended target and is still in hospital waiting for painful skin grafts.

His son James said: “He is in a bad way.

“It’s just awful and the family are in pieces at the moment.”

A 19-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in connection with the incident and has been bailed while investigations continue.

Anyone who recognises the men depicted in either efit or who has other information about the attack is asked to call Essex Police at Braintree CID on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
