Cracking down on Firstsite vandals

First published in News

A FENCE will be put up around the Firstsite art gallery’s garden to tackle antisocial behaviour.

Colchester Council will fence off the D-shaped lawn so it can only be accessed through the building.

It will also install a gate across the access road at the back of the building and adjoining properties.

The council did not say if a specific incident had prompted the decision to install the fence. A 12ft tall pane of glass next to the main entrance was smashed on Thursday.

So much for open public space (which I'm guessing was part of the planning proposal).

I wonder how long before flood lighting of the VAF and 24 hour security men with dogs patrol to grounds to ensure the ordinary public are kept out.
.
It will be interesting to talk to the camp guards about the misuse of public money. I remember the last lot brought in to terrorise the youngsters on the skateboards. After some discussion of the VAF they vanished in the direction of McDonalds and never returned. Despite Councillor Youngs assurance they would be regularly detailed to VAF patrol I never saw them again.

It's not about art as some claim. It's about vandalism. It's not welcome in Colchester town centre no more than the recent murders.

May as well fence off the whole site. Biggest waste of money in the history of this town. Bye bye firsts*ite. The day we stop funding this joke, change the building use or knock it down will be a day to rejoice. Public sector idiocy and incompetence at its finest every step of the way.
