Giving up my gig for Elton was no Sacrifice

Gazette: Giving up my gig for Elton was no Sacrifice Giving up my gig for Elton was no Sacrifice

ELTON John impersonator Graham Nash’s latest Colchester gig has been cancelled – to make way for the genuine article.

As well as performing across the globe as the Elton Experience, Graham has sold out the function room at Colchester United’s Weston Homes Community Stadium on successive visits in 2012 and 2013.

The Colchester musician said: “I was hoping to make it a hat-trick this year.

“My agent got in touch and asked if I’d like to go back and I said yes – I was looking forward to it.

“But to cut a long story short, when I spoke to the agent later, he said they’d decided to go with another artist instead.

“I was really upset – until they told me it was Elton John himself.”

He doesn't decide where he works he is employed by promoters. They were so desperate to get a concert into the stadium they've done this one at a loss!!!

It beggars belief to me that people can even moan about this! Colchester's had some pretty bad coverage over the past week, this is perhaps a chance for us to have some good news. I'm not remotely a fan of Elton John, not my cup of tea at all, but how can it be seen as anything but a good thing that he is playing here?

That's maybe 10,000 people coming in from all over the place. Lots will stay the night, some will come for a weekend. Many of these people might never have been here before. All the people who go will have, I am sure, an enjoyable night. Most of them will be well aware of the murders and perhaps a little nervous of what kind of place they are coming to, but this is our chance to put Colchester across in a good light to all these people.

I hope the night goes really well. I am sure there will be traffic issues and train issues, but you get those at almost any major gig. If you see somebody looking a bit lost, help them out! Point them towards the stadium! First impressions count, we are all, in our own little way, ambassadors this weekend!
