A RECONSTRUCTION of the murder of Jim Attfield is being filmed in Colchester by Crimewatch in an attempt to help catch his killers.

Jim Attfield, 33, of East Bay, Colchester, was stabbed 102 times and killed shortly before 6am on Saturday, March 29.

He was found barely alive near Castle Park and Guildford Road and died a short time later.

The killer or killers of the father-of-five have not been caught despite an extensive police investigation.

BBC Crimewatch will be at the scene today and later this week filming a reconstruction to try and help find his killers.

The programme is due to air in June, subject to the ongoing investigation.

A 27-year-old man and woman from Colchester have been rebailed until July 9 after being arrested in connection with the murder.

Detectives are still looking to speak to seven of the more than 20 caught on CCTV in the park that evening who may have crucial information.

Det Chief Insp Simon Werritt said: "We urge them to contact us so we can talk to them and find out what they were doing in the park and then hopefully dismiss them from the enquiry.

"We want to move on and concentrate fully on potential suspects.”

Police are releasing one CCTV image a day to try and focus people's minds.

A Crimestoppers reward of up to £5,000 still remains on offer for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the murder.

Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Ive mentioned before ,that i feel ,the reward should be raised . In the main news today , a reward of £15000 is being offered , for the arrest of of a lad who killed another , in a London park ,with a single stab wound. Anyway , lets hope Crimewatch will lead to an arrest.

If there are people out that have information about what happen, they should not have be bribed with money to come forward and tell police what they know.
They should just do it!!

Agree fully, BUT it is perfectly possible that somebody does know or suspects it is their friend, or brother, or son, but they are scared to say anything. A reward can be the thing which makes somebody prepared to speak. Of course people shouldn't need to be bribed, but we are dealing with somebody who is prepared to stab somebody more than 100 times. It is quite possible that they behave in an intimidating way to those around them.

A very valid point. I had not looked at it from that point of view.
Can only hope someone comes forward very soon.

we live in a sick and twisted world but yes your right, if it takes money to find out who did this, then that is indeed what should be done....... whatever it takes to get this person/persons off the streets!!

Are we to assume that police have dismissed the possibility that the victim knew his killer and that it was not a personal vendata of some sort? I think the public really needs to know if this was most probably a completely random attack. I personally would feel a lot more comfortable walking home in the dark if I knew there wasn't the possibility of someone hiding in a bush waiting to vent his psychosis on me.

On the basis that there appear to be no breakthroughs on this, I don't think we can assume anything. I think most of us would feel more comfortable if this was a personal vendetta, not some lunatic going for random strangers. But the truth is (as far as we know) that we don't know anything for sure. That is always going to be a worry until somebody is caught.

Do we know many people who are stabbed 102 times and NOT be killed then?

What a stupid comment to make.

RIP Jimmy, I sincerely hope they catch the B**tard(s) that did this to you.
