SHOCKING CCTV footage of a murderer and a thug shows the moment they found out teenager Jay Whiston was dead.

Just 90 minutes after the 17-year-old was stabbed to death Edward Redman, 18, of Weyland Drive, Stanway and Rhys Hennebry, 19, of Gurdon Road, Colchester, can be seen laughing and joking on a bus.

But the mood suddenly changes when killer Redman, in the red top, receives a message.

Police believe this is the moment Redman finds out he is a murderer.

Earlier that evening Jay, of Aster Close, Clacton, was at a party in Marlowe Way, Lexden, Colchester.

Everyone is having a good time before Redman and Hennebry arrive and a fight breaks out over a bottle of whiskey.

Shortly after 10pm Redman stabs Jay, who was trying to protect a friend.

Jay stumbles to the front of the house when Hennebry, in the black top, throws and smashes a bottle over his head.

Redman then delivers the fatal blows.

Despite being rushed to hospital Jay Whiston is declared dead.

Meanwhile Redman and Hennebry have fled.

They are caught running for a bus, about 90 minutes later, just after 11.30pm.

After getting on Redman receives a message and the pair move to the back.

He shows Hennebry the message and Redman puts his hand over his mouth in shock.

What follows is frantic phone calls and text messages.

These messages and calls were later deleted and Redman's clothes and the murder weapon disappeared, with the help of his father, brother and then girlfriend.

During the video the pair can be seen checking their shoes, presumably for blood, while Jay's family are at Colchester General Hospital being given the devastating news.

Redman received a life sentence for murder and will serve a minimum of 17 years in jail.

Hennebry admitted affray and was jailed for three years for this and another attack the night before.

Those who received and deleted the calls and messages seen being made during the footage have also been jailed.

Gary Redman, 52, of Halstead Road, Eight Ash Green and John Redman, 20, of High Street, Halstead, were jailed for two years for perverting the course of justice.

Shannon Fenlon, 19, of Jameson Road, Clacton, was jailed for nine months for the same offence.
