Two people have been charged with assault after police finished investigating a mass brawl outside a town centre pub.

A man in his thirties suffered severe head and facial injuries, including having his ear bitten, in a fight outside Scenarios, in Trinity Street, Halstead, at about 1.30am on June 23 last year.

A man in his forties from the Halstead area also suffered minor cuts and bruises in the incident, which took place just metres from the town’s police station.

Housewife Clare Wilmerson, 31, of Tweed Close, Halstead, and Curt Wilmerson, 31, a draughtsman from Waterers Way, Bagshot, Surrey, were both arrested a few hours later and released on police bail.

Officers have now finished their enquiries and charged both suspects with one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of threatening unlawful violence.

The pair have been released on bail to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on April 29.
