POLICE are investigating whether a body found on a beach is that of an Albanian man who jumped from a ferry off the coast of Harwich.

Essex Police and their Suffolk counterparts are attempting to identify the body of a man who was found washed up on the beach near Buregate Road in Felixstowe.

The body was found shortly after 12.30pm and appears to have been in the water for some time.

He was found with a quantity of Euro currency on his body.

Two Albanian nationals being deported from the UK were feared dead after jumping from a Stena Britannica ferry last month.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Essex Police is liaising with its counterparts from Suffolk following the discovery of a body which had been washed up on a beach in Felixstowe.

“Suffolk Police were called shortly after 12.30pm following reports of a man’s body on the beach at Buregate Road.

“Officers are now trying to identify him and ascertain whether he is one of two men who reportedly jumped from a ferry into the sea between Harwich and Felixstowe on Wednesday Feburary 27.”
