Stuart Wallis and Sarah Morgan forced to close their business after lease row

Gazette: It’s end of the line for our station kiosk It’s end of the line for our station kiosk

A BUSINESS claims it has been forced to close because Greater Anglia has told it to sign a six-year lease or leave.

The Kiosk, at Wivenhoe train station, opened in September last year and signed a six-month tenancy.

When Stuart Wallis and Sarah Morgan tried to negotiate a new contract, Greater Anglia said it would only hold talks about a long-term lease.

The couple, who are also business partners, could not afford to take such a risk and will open for the last time today.

Sounds like the behaviour of a Pubco. 6 years is unreasonable in my opinion.

All hail the King of Colchester (and Wivenhoe and other surrounding villages)!

They are doing the same to K&K Cleaners at Colchester Station. They provide a great services to many commuters, as I expect the Kiosk does, but are being forced out by an exorbitant new lease. It's disgusting.

I've been speaking to Stuart over this whilst getting my coffee. I really feel for these guys. It is just so typical of these companies running these third world services, and telling us how community minded they are. Most of us that use Wivenhoe Station, use this important community service (The Kiosk) and to see it closing yet again, is frankly disgusting. I hope ALL prospective people looking to rent this space will be put off by what has happened to Stuart and Sarah.

PS. Best of luck to you for the future.

If only they could run their trains as efficiently as these people run their business. Six years is a farce, two year rolling would be much fairer, lets face it these hardworking people have their business dictated to by how well the transport runs and I know loads of people who drive rather than be ripped off with poor service!

Firstly I wonder if Abelio Greater Anglia will be around in 6 years. We've had more changes on this line than a model at London fashion week.
Having commuted from Wivenhoe in the past and knowing how there is a real community spirit in the town, I wonder whether the Council and the 'Station' (pub) owners could discuss something whereby the couple are leased on a shortish term basis the pub first thing in the morning to serve what they do in the Kiosk thus sticking two fingers up at that shambles Abelio Greater Anglia.

Great idea. Could be mutually beneficial.

I do agree Wardyt. A better idea would be Ab(horrent)ellio Grating Anglia climb down off their Ivory Tower and let these people carry on with a rolling lease.
