MORE than five million tourist trips are made to Colchester borough every year, new figures reveal.
A rise in “staycations” and friends and family visiting saw more and more tourists come to Colchester during the recession.
The value of tourism shot up to £311million, according to the latest data.
The figures are boosted by visits to the borough, one of the fastest growing in the country in terms of population, by friends and relatives of residents.
