Its little use detective appealing for witnesses - there needs to be a police presence on foot on the streets of Colchester.

Surely there is CCTV coverage there? If not there should be and maybe ECC should divert some money from cameras policing bus lanes to cameras protecting the public.

Most large towns have a street devoted to clubbing and drinking. One can avoid them by going elsewhere. In Colchester drunkenness and violence is all over. Blame CBC for allowing all these drinking establishments licences.

The CCTV in the High Street wasn't even working. No Police, no CCTV is it any wonder these types of crime go undetected. Don't worry though as long as the bus lane camera is working nothing else seems to matter. Welcome to Colchester.

It's time for a meeting between all the responsible officials and properly interested persons to establish all the factors which have led to the worrying increase in violence in our town.
A way forward must be found, we simply cannot allow the continuance of the present, seemingly lawless, situation. Every day this paper seems to report yet another serious assault.
I don't know what the answer is and I doubt many ordinary people do but that is why we elect leaders to lead and pay public servants to ensure delivery of policies. This not a party political matter, it is a cross party concern so no political point scoring please. Get together and come up with a workable solution.
The silence from our ALL our leaders and law enforcement services is deafening at present.

Between Oasis and Spar...? That's almost the length of the High Street!! Can we be more specific...?

Re: police presence, it was nice to see on Saturday night/Sunday morning two policemen standing in close proximity to Silk Road and kebab alley - hopefully this will be a regular thing there. I walked through the area at about 3.30am and it was relatively free of trouble!

I don't believe this. Does our Purple Flag status mean nothing? It's almost like they hand out Purple Flags to any town stupid enough to waste public money buying one....

Mind your own business.....'He just got a Colchester kiss'?????

That's slightly insensitive don't you think? He's a 19 year old lad probably enjoying a night out, that ended up in A&E with a fractured eye socket. That type of comment only encourages/makes light of...yet another serious injury in the town centre. If this was your son would you have responded like this?

A load of hysterical nonsence above. Are you a bunch of wimps? Young people have battled in town centres (especially weekends) since year dot. 1950's / 60's us teddyboys enjoyed a good scrap, corn exchange saturday dances, cups tap bar, red lion yard, cross keys, were notorious for a good punch up. 8 pints of red barrel, and a good bundle, cant beat it Makes queen street today look positively serene in comparison.

A good point but totally irrelevant, you chose to fight just as some did with the squaddies at a later date in time, this person was minding his own business, forget your past and focus on the here and now!
