THE race is on in Colchester to beat cancer.

Entries are now being accepted for this year’s Race for Life.

Last year, 2,826 women took part in the event at Castle Park, Colchester, raising £157,752.

This year, organisers hope 3,000 women and girls will take part in two, non-competitive 5km races and help to raise at least £145,000.

They will be held on Sunday, July 20, and women can run, jog or walk the course.

Rachel Parratt, Cancer Research UK’s Colchester events manager, said: “We’re calling on Colchester’s mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.”

The money raised is used for Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance their research into the disease.

To enter, visit raceforlife.org or call 0845 6006050.

Entry is £14.99 for adults and £10 for girls under 16. The entry fee covers the cost of staging the series of events throughout the summer.
