A PUB is set to get a £100,000 revamp by its new owner.

Jason Latchford took over the Goat and Boot, in East Hill, late last year.

He is planning to turn it into a real ale pub and hopes to attract traditional regulars back to the well-known venue.

Mr Latchford, 45, said: “There was a lot of work to be done when we took it over.

“We didn’t have wine when we moved in, so people who drink wine didn’t come.

“We’ve changed that and I’m also hoping to serve real ale as well.”

“We’re planning a bigger refurbishment in the future, which will probably cost £90,000 or £100,000. I want to make the Goat and Boot somewhere people want to come to.”

Mr Latchford also runs the Norfolk pub, in North Station Road, Colchester, which he took over the in 2007.

Talking about his latest venture he said several real ale taps would be added.

He said: “There will be a few and we will try to change them quite often to make sure there’s a good selection for people. Real ale is quite important nowadays, a lot of people like to have those options.”

A food menu will also be offered in the next fewweeks.

Mr Latchford said: “People will definitely notice a difference.

“There has been a lot of hard work gone in already since we took it over and there’s definitely some more to come.”

Mr Latchford took over the pub on November 12. It was closed briefly while initial work was carried out and was open again before the new year.
