FROM a dry cleaners in Made in Chelsea to a Christmas grotto in the Only Way is Essex, cheeky councillor Stephen Canning has made his mark on TV.

The Conservative, who became the youngest councillor on Braintree Council when he was 18, joined the two cult TV shows as an extra.

But he has ruled out a career in TV for a while, saying he plans to keep his head down.

Former Colchester Sixth Form College student Mr Canning, now 20, can be seen in the background of the ITV2’s Towie as two families compete to see who has the best festive lights in Brentwood.

Mr Canning, regional chairman of the Conservative Future eastern branch, enjoyed a drink as two of the show’s love rivals had a heart-to-heart.

He also posed for a picture with the lion feature of the Bloor family’s winning display which depicting the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Weeks earlier,Mr Canning,who is studying business management, was filmed “working” in Jeeves dry cleaners, in Chelsea, for the Channel 4 show which follows the lives of rich young Londoners.

Speaking about his latest onscreen appearance, he said: “I thought I had cheated on my heritage by going on Made in Chelsea, so I thought I had better get it back by going on the home show.

“Someone has suggested I try Geordie Shore, so I’ll keep an eye out.

“But I think I might want to avoid thatone and I think itwould beabit of a commute.”

Mr Canning, who does not get paid to be an extra, said hehad not done any other filming.

*Towie star Jessica Wright joined the celebrations as sisters who set up their own beauty salon marked six months of trading.

Kay Crimmins and Aimee Wilmot, who work in salon Sorellas With Love, in Witham, invited Jessica and her sister, Natalie, to try some of the treatments.

Customers were also invited to the event, which included demonstrations and talks.

Kay said: “We were delighted Jessica could come along and show her support.

“She was lovely and seemed to enjoyher treatments.

“We would welcome her back any time.”
