Residents kept in the dark over streetlight plans
RESIDENTS will be kept in the dark over plans to switch off streetlights.
Highways bosses will not reveal which lights are set to be switched off in Colchester next month.
From November 1 an estimated 70 per cent of lights in the borough will go out between midnight and 5am as part of an Essex County Council wide scheme to save cash and reduce carbon emissions.
But less than two weeks before the lights are due to go off County Hall said it was unable to reveal which streetlights would be excluded from the switch off.
It means the first residents will know about lights on their street is when they are plunged into darkness.
An Essex County Council spokesman said maps showing lights to be kept on will be placed on its website once consultation results were reviewed by the start of November.
