U's can be good neighbours with new village working group
2:08pm Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
Residents who live near to the U’s Florence Park training ground, in Grange Road, have been at odds with the club since the ground opened in July 2012.
They say the noise which comes from the ground is unacceptable and have launched a series of attacks on the club.
But in an open letter to villagers published today in the U's newspaper The Eagle, Mr Cowling has proposed a liaison group should be set up where representatives from the club and residents meet regularly face-to-face.
He said: “It is a condition of our planning permission that we arrange quarterly liaison meetings with local representatives and rather than just pay lip service to this condition, we would like to comply with it in a way that grasps the opportunity for Colchester United to contribute positively to the whole of Tiptree.
“Therefore we are seeking to form a liaison group that will meet with representatives from the club at the training ground on a quarterly basis to explore Colchester United’s interests of good neighbourliness with its immediate neighbours as well as its desire to increase the positive impact on the local community.”
