Grannies' ski hats ordered by British ski team
A GROUP of grannies have been knocking their knitting needles together to ensure a top team of skiers have personalised woolly hats to wear.
The Elmstead Market Knitting Circle was tasked with making 14 hats for GB skier Jasmin Taylor and her pals on the piste.
The challenge came about after Jasmin was impressed with the stitching skills of the circle’s founder member, Betty Sly, and wanted matching hats for her mates.
The 19-year-old, whose grandmother lives in Great Bromley, competes for Great Britain as a World Cup Telemark ski racer and when she’s not training in France, is based Ipswich.
After four months’ of clicking sticks, the hats, each with their own union jack on the front, have been completed.
The young sports star visited the group at their weekly meeting to pick them up.
Mrs Sly, 80, of Elmstead Market, said: “She was thrilled to bits. I have never seen anybody so excited about it.”
The knitting circle will now be keeping an eager eye out for the hats during future coverage of the team on television.
