£5 million grant to help Colchester researchers
2:32pm Monday 7th October 2013 in News
A £5MILLION boost has been handed to health and social care researchers in Colchester.
Essex University-based teams have been given the money so they can improve the diagnoses, treatment and prevention of disease.
The funding, from the Department of Health, will go to the Research Design Service East of England (RDS EoE).
It is based in the School of Health and Human Sciences at the university.
Professor Gill Green, director of the three bodies at the University of Essex, said: “We are striving to improve the health of the nation through research by supporting collaborations between academics, NHS Trusts, Clinical Trials Units and third sector organisations.
“This continued funding is a great opportunity to develop applied health research partnerships which incorporate the knowledge of the clinician, the research skills of the academic and the lived experience of the patient.”
The funding will be spent over the next five years.
The RDS EoE has already supported the development of a range of projects to benefit patients, including assessing the best support literature for people trying to give up smoking.
