More power cuts after road crash
MORE than 130 residents suffered further power cuts as engineers worked to fix overhead lines, damaged when a van driver crashed into an electricity pole.
Van driver Edward Parker, 20, of East Street, Tollesbury, was charged with careless driving and failing to stop after the smash on Oxley Hill, Tolleshunt D’Arcy on Saturday night.
Nearly 2,000 residents lost power for about 20 minutes after the 11.20pm incident.
Five residents remained without power for part of Sunday morning and UK Power Networks arranged alternative supplies for them.
Kelvedon Road, which leads into Oxley Hill, was also closed until Sunday evening while repairs took place.
Drivers were diverted via Tolleshunt Knights or Tolleshunt Major.
A UK Power Networks spokesman said: “Extensive repair work was completed Sunday night, when power had to be temporarily interrupted for 136 customers from 8.53pm and returned in stages, with all back on by 11.37pm.”
Mr Parker will appear before Chelmsford Magistrates on October 8. He has been bailed.
