Colchester: "Slimmer" dad charged with charity theft
A DAD has been charged with stealing hundreds of pounds from a charity for allegedly pretending he was doing a sponsored slim.
Ian Wells is accused of stealing £600 from the Colchester Children’s Charity Appeal.
He had appeared in the Gazette thanking the charity for donating £800 of carpets to his home.
The carpets were worth £800 and were installed in time for Christmas 2012.
Mr Wells, 36, of Queensland Drive, Colchester, then pledged to raise cash for the charity to say thanks.
But by May, the charity still hadn’t had any of the money he had raised through sponsors.
He was arrested earlier this month and charged with theft.
Mr Wells is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on September 27.
