Unemployment falls in Colchester

UNEMPLOYMENT in Colchester has fallen for the fifth month in a row.
The number of people claiming Jobseekers Allowance in July fell by 47, to 2,770, which equates to 2.4 per cent of the borough’s workforce.
Of the 2,770, some 1,794 are men and 976 are women.
There are 725 people aged between 18 and 24-years-old unemployed, 155 of whom have been out of work for more than a year.
The figures compare well to the East of England figure of 2.7 per cent, while in Great Britain, it is 3.4 per cent.
In Tendring, the number of people claiming the benefit in July fell by 97 to 2,983 .
That means 3.8 per cent of the district’s workforce is out of work.
Some 8.7 per cent of young people in Tendring aged between 18 and 24-years-old is unemployed.
In Braintree, 2,208 are out of work, equating to 2.4 per cent, while in Maldon 780 people are unemployed, or 2 per cent.
