A BLOCKBUSTER 'Tollywood' action film is set to feature a Colchester stadium after cameramen were spotted across the county.

Hundreds of extras were recruited and cameramen were spotted at the Jobserve Community Stadium – the home of Colchester United.

The stadium was used to film 150 Colchester extras through the night for a crucial scene last week for an upcoming 'Tollywood' film, The Agency.

Similar to the well know Bollywood Indian films, Tollywood films are movies from the south of India which uses the Telugu language.

In the film, the stadium and crowd will be digitally enhanced to make it look like a packed crowd at Wembley Stadium for an England vs Germany football match.

East Anglia company Film Suffolk was hired by the producers BVSN Prasad and Yogesh Sudharkara to source filming locations and extras.

Bystanders were also left wondering what was going on after the cameramen were spotted at Braintree Town Hall.

The town hall was chosen to play the office of a British diplomat with the producers swapping to the location from London.

Company Director for Film Suffolk Julien Mery said: “The movie, currently titled The Agency, is shooting large parts of the film in Suffolk and Essex.

“Under the direction of Praveen Sattaru, the lead actor Varun Tej plays an Indian diplomat fighting to uncover an environmental scandal of global proportion.

“In Essex, the beautiful Braintree Town Hall was chosen to stand in for posh office interiors of the diplomat's office and Colchester United Football Stadium was chosen to host 150 extras as a crowd which is going to be digitally enhanced to fake a much larger stadium at full capacity.”

A big United Nations summit meeting scene was also shot in Ipswich.

Overall, between 400 and 500 extras and crew were sourced from across Essex to help production with filming wrapping in Essex on November 7.

Mr Mery also said the producers were impressed with the Essex extras’ enthusiasm, with the Colchester United stadium scenes shot from 5pm to 5am.

The producers also said they’d likely return to Essex for future film shoots due to the great locations which are much more reasonable compared to London.
