A COLCHESTER man has been arrested following reports of several assaults and criminal damage in the city centre.

Essex Police is appealing for witnesses and information about several incidents which took place in Colchester High Street.

On March 27, at about 1.30pm, officers received a report of a suspect entering the HSBC bank in High Street.

They are said to have spoken to staff before assaulting a woman in her 30s and causing an extensive amount of damage to machines in the building. 

According to Essex Police, a suspect then reportedly assaulted a man in his 50s outside Fenwicks at 1.55pm, before another man in his 50s was assaulted in North Hill at 2.20pm. 

A third incident took place on March 28, at about 7.25pm, when a suspect assaulted a man in his 30s in High Street. 

At 7.30am, a suspect assaulted and attempted to rob a woman in her 30s in North Station Road. 

Essex Police has since confirmed a 38-year-old man from Colchester was arrested in connection with these incidents on March 28. 

He has been bailed and enquiries are continuing. 

A police spokesman said: “Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or may have dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incidents. 

“If you have any information that may assist our officers, please get in touch quoting incident 42/49217/24.”
